New report: Zurich Ensures Destruction

How Switzerland’s biggest insurer supports genocide, controversial weapons and fossil fuel expansion

12 January 2026 Zurich, Switzerland A new report published by BreakFree Suisse and Boycott Bloody Insurance reveals that Zurich Insurance Group, Switzerland’s largest insurer, invests $268 million in six military equipment contractors arming Israel and facilitating its ongoing genocide in Gaza. These include Boeing, whose bombs and guidance kits have been used in unlawful airstrikes, and Lockheed Martin, which supplies and services F-16 and F-35 fighter jets—the backbone of the Israeli Air Force.

Zurich’s investments in military contractors implicated in grave human rights abuses and potential war crimes place the insurer at serious risk of breaching its own Human Rights Policy and international standards. They also expose Zurich to significant financial, reputational, and regulatory risk.

Zurich also invests $187 million in weapons manufacturers involved in the supply chain of controversial weapons including nuclear weapons, depleted uranium and white phosphorus.

The report further finds that Zurich invests $2.513 billion in 11 companies listed in the United Nations Human Rights Council’s July 2025 report, From economy of occupation to the economy of genocide, which names corporate entities contributing to human rights violations and international crimes against the Palestinian people. These include Palantir, which “expanded its support to the Israeli military post-October 2023,” and Chevron, Israel’s largest gas producer.

The report also shows that Zurich invests $197 million in fossil fuel companies such as Chevron and ExxonMobil — firms that are actively expanding oil and gas production in ways incompatible with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. This stands in stark contrast to Zurich’s progressive 2024 insurance policy, which prohibits coverage for new single-site oil and gas projects.
