ABOUT BREAKFREE

We focus on addressing the urgent challenge of finance transformation and people’s rights. We aim to stop the financing of projects that drive the climate and biodiversity crises and disregard human rights.
Indigenous peoples and local communities are crucial allies in this effort. While individual actions are important, they are not enough. We must hold major carbon emitters accountable by collaborating with those on the frontlines, who are directly fighting in their territories against projects that contribute to climate change, harm local territories, indigenous communities, and violate their rights. Together we reclaim our power from finance.

The Swiss National Bank and FINMA are responsible for financial stability – yet their current policies are fuelling the climate and biodiversity crises. How is that possible? And what needs to change for them to become part of the solution, not the problem?

UBS, Pictet and other banks talk about sustainability – but their money keeps flowing into oil, gas and coal. How does that add up? And how can we push them to align their investments with global climate goals?

Insurance companies make large-scale fossil fuel projects possible – no pipelines, no mines, no expansion without their coverage. So why are their climate pledges often just half-measures? And what will it take to finally cut this fossil safety net?
